With no competition, each child progresses at their own pace with the teacher's support.
Classes combine technique, games and exercises to develop the body, concentration, imagination, flexibility and reflexes.

How much do Aikido classes at Dojo da Luz cost?
The standard fee at Dojo da Luz is €35 per month for up to three classes a week. Children pay €25 per month for one weekly class and €35 for two. A reduced fee of €30 is available for students and unemployed people, on proof.
Do I need previous experience to start practising Aikido?
No previous experience is needed to start practising Aikido at Dojo da Luz. You can book a trial class, which costs €5 and is deducted from your first monthly fee.
Where are the dojos in Lisbon?
Dojo da Luz teaches in three locations in Lisbon: Benfica, Lumiar and Encarnação. In Lumiar, practice takes place at the Pista de Atletismo Municipal Prof. Moniz Pereira.
From what age can children practise?
Children's and teenagers' classes at Dojo da Luz are for ages 5 to 17: in Benfica from Monday to Friday, 18:30 to 19:30, and in Encarnação on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 17:30 to 18:30.
When can I enrol in the classes?
Enrolment at Dojo da Luz is open at any time of the year. The 2026–2027 season runs from September to June; in July and August a reduced timetable is published in June.
What is Buki Waza?
Buki Waza is Aikido practice with wooden weapons: the Ken, a wooden sword, and the Jo, a staff about 1.27 m long. Dojo da Luz holds a Buki Waza class in Lumiar on Saturdays, 11:00 to 12:30.
